I run an audio sharing site (traydio) and often wonder why video has stolen the march on media sharing? Am I right in thinking:
a) Youtube's popularity is down to the relative ease of making video over audio?
b) people still have a problem hearing their own voice?
c) audio is strangely hard for people to create. ie they know how to make video even on their phones, but not how to make an mp3?
d) we (audio pros and fans) are still not doing enough to help people?

a) YouTube is one of those phenomenons that creates a demand while supplying it. It also seems to inspire people to make more videos!
b) I agree. Yet, conversely, they seem to have no problem seeing themselves lip-sync to Blondie songs.
c) again, great point. Video is infinitely easier to create. People seem to forgive poorly made video easier than they'll forgive poor sounding audio. I think that just goes to show that the audio experience is a much more personal, even intimate, experience.
d) again, you're probably right. Do we think the tools and the methods are too complicated, expensive or similar for your average punter to get involved with?

I think with a video one is activating all senses while in the audio it is just one sensory organ and therefore keeping a person's attention is a lot mor difficult.

Agree with this one. There are advantages to audio - it makes you think harder - it's easier to do things whilst listening, you cannot really watch videos and drive a truck, as a UK truck driver proved only this week.

If audio publishing had a similar mechanism as youtube there would be some pickup - but to be honest I think the boat on that one has been missed.

In some ways that's not such a bad thing - it's perhaps easier to keep track of 'serious' topics using audio sites - not so many dancing hamsters and teenage stuff to wade through!

Networks like this will help to promote audio as a medium. It's a shame that even the system which this network uses calls it 'music' rather than the more generic 'audio' - but that's not too hard to get round.

The above thought is smart and doesn’t require any further addition. It’s perfect thought from my side.
